An introductory video into the agenda of legalizing Medical Marijuana
Through its medical uses, Marijuana could be legalized for people ages 18 and above. Individuals under the age of 18 should not be allowed to partake in the legal use of marijuana, even for it's medical uses. Thus, the youth are still not exposed [1] to the drug. For people ages 18 and up, they will not be penalized for the use or possession of the drug, as long as they possess the correct paperwork [2]. Since citizens must possess paperwork to have marijuana, less people will be illegally partaking in the use of marijuana. Therefore with less illegal use of marijuana, less people will be sent to jail [3] for illegally possessing the drug. Consequently, the jail population will be reduced. The legalization of marijuana will be a step towards diminishing the drug war [4] , which is the conflict between the government and those who illegally sell drugs.
Moving onto the hard stuff: Benefits of Medical Marijuana:
Medical marijuana can be beneficial to people [5] who have different medical problems, such as epilepsy. Therefore, medical marijuana should be legalized. Thus, if medical marijuana is legal patients will have easy access[6] to the drug. Consequently, the accessibility will allow for more patients who need it to be treated using marijuana. Through the legalization and knowledge that the drug eases the pain of their illness, the patients will buy more of the drug.
Economic Benefit:
Through the legalization of
marijuana, taxes would be placed on the drug. By placing taxes on the drug, the
government will gain more money[7],
see the last two paragraphs of page one and first two of page
two, from the tax dollars. Therefore, the influx of taxes will
cause the United States’ debt will decrease. As such, the extra tax dollars[8] would allow the chance for new
businesses to form in the marijuana industry. Through the formation of new
businesses, more jobs[9]
would be available to American citizens. By having more job opportunities in
America, the unemployment problem would begin to disseminate. Through the
decrease in unemployment rate, the country would begin to come out of the
recession.

ReplyDeleteWell first off as Nick pointed out, you started your blog off with stating your point. This isn't very effective to someone coming to your page to learn and obtain an informed position on the issue. Much of this blog also serves to support the legalization and doesn't even shed light upon why the legalization is even an issue to many people. For example when you mention medical marijuana, you should have mentioned those who fake needing medical marijuana etc.
ReplyDeleteActually, we started our blog off with stating the generalization of our movement. We move into making our point after the great video in the first paragraph. Yes, our blog shed's light upon why legalization is an issue to people. We state all of the beneficial and why these positives would help our government and the people in it. For the record, there is no reason to state those faking medical marihuana, because majority of people who are trying to sell are 21 and older. Therefore, they would be legal in our argument. Thus, they would not have to fake needing medical marijuana. Thanks!
DeleteJo, perhaps you might want to give some type of intro to your first video besides the title of your blog post. The post feels more like an essay rather than a blog. There are also jumps in the logic of your argument. You say since “Medical marijuana can be beneficial to people who have different medical problems, such as epilepsy. Therefore, medical marijuana should be legalized.” People who are against the legalization of marijuana would simply say that there are pharmaceutical drugs that are beneficial to problems such as epilepsy. You should really make an effort to state the opposing side to the argument and the implications so that your post will be more effective. Discovery channel video on a little boy whose epilepsy was helped by medical marijuana.
ReplyDeleteGiving an introduction to our first video would not catch the readers eye at all. If they come into our blog and right away have to read a long paragraph, it will just bore them. Our logic as a very steady roadmap. We start at giving points about why they should legalize at age 21 and then go into why minors should be able to have the drug. THen we went into the beneficial. From there we talked about the drug wars it is causing, and to end it stated how much money the government could gain if they legalized it. Giving the opposing side of our argument would not persuade the reader to come to our side.
DeleteWhile I do agree with your argument and opinion, I have to say you don't have a lot of factual evidence backing up your claims. Also, had I not agreed with your stance, I probably would have left pretty quickly because your first sentence turns away anyone who disagrees with you. But going back to your lack of factual evidence, it appears that there are a lot of claims that you've made and while they do have good evidence, you provide nothing in your blog. The layout is also too wordy. I would also recommend more media to draw interest to your argument.
ReplyDeleteWe give plenty of factual evidence. Everything highlighted in blue contains multiple facts and evidence to support our claims. Our first sentence gives the reader something to look forward to. Stating that marijuana should be legalized at the age of 21 will only push the reader to learn why and keep reading. Our evidence is short, yet to the point. Our blog contains a number of great media and interesting videos. Giving too many sources will only confuse and bore the reader, turning them to move away from our blog.
DeleteAre you in favor for only medical legalization of pot, or for all around legalization? Where do you stand exactly? What is your fulcrum? You started your blog off by just rambling on about the regulations of legalized marijuana, and you say that people “under 21 will not be exposed”? If High School students can buy pot almost on command now, why would you say that they will not be exposed to pot if legalized?
ReplyDeleteIn your blog, there are just general facts about the positives that the legalization of marijuana has to offer, and it reads more like an essay, and not a blog.
"Through the decrease in unemployment rate, the country would begin to come out of the recession." ... Now, how would you know that exactly? You jump to conclusions and sound very bias at times, like as if there are no negatives that come from the legalization of pot. What are the obstacles that need to be figured out, in order for marijuana to be legalized?
Your blog overall comes off as very bias. I understand you are following a road map, but you just jump point to point without really defining how they connect in a linear argument.
We state our fulcrum. We are for the legalization of marijuana to people of the age 21 and up. We clearly state it and it is in bold at the very top of our blog. Yes, People under 21 years of age will not be exposed. If 21 and up are legal, we can just focus on primarily busting the kids in high school for using the drug. It will be a lot easier, and once the word gets out that the cops are only going after the kids, the use of the drug underage will decrease tremendously. It is pretty much common sense. If more people are getting jobs the recession will get better and better. We are not biased at all. We state evidence and give great reasoning for all that we state. Our roadmap is the strong point of our blog. It is effective and to the point.
DeleteLegalize marijuana for people 21 and older and “The youth are still not exposed to the drug”? Do you live under a rock? The US drinking ages is 21 and guess what? Underage drinkers consume more drinks per drinking occasion than adult drinkers (according to US Center for Disease Control and Prevention http://www.cdc.gov/alcohol/fact-sheets/underage-drinking.htm). History, research, and common sense shows that imposing age limit on drugs will only lead to further teenage abuse. Take a look at this person's stand on the issue of marijuana, it makes a lot more sense: http://ptchristalerik.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteThe youth are not and should not be exposed to the drug legally. The drinking age is 21, why should the use of a drug such as marijuana be legal to people under the age of 21. Do you live under a rock? Sure sounds like it. Yes, if you are 21 and older you should have the right and have the freedom to choose whether you want to use marijuana or not. People under the age of 21 are not fully developed yet. They do not understand how it is effective and sometimes do not always make the right choices. It will decrease the drug abuse and the limit will help our society get away from drugs, especially drugs that lead to bigger and more damaging drugs.
DeleteYour initial post is supposed to set the scene for your blog, so you shouldn’t state your point in the first sentence. You say that “marijuana should be legalized for people ages 21 and above,” yea but why? This is your first sentence, but it doesn’t prove anything because it lacks a fulcrum, which makes it seem like you want to legalize marijuana just because “you say so”. Also, when you get more into your blog and topic, make sure that you clearly state the importance of the main points that you are trying to get across. This link may help you establish credibility towards your argument in later posts: http://www.cbsnews.com/2741-204_162-664.html and this link may support your reasons to why marijuana should be legalized: http://www.cnbc.com/id/36201668
ReplyDeleteIf you did not see, we very well did state why marijuana should be legalized for people of the age 21 or above. We stated that legalizing it would stop a lot of people from being sent to jail. With fewer people in jail, you save the government a ton of money. When you save a lot of money, the drug wars will go down significantly. With all of this, you are still protecting the people under the age of 21 from being able to use marijuana. Furthermore, this will help stop people from drug use when they reach that 21 mark. Hopefully they will be smart enough by then to know they are killing themselves. We actually prove our points very well. We display how medical marijuana is very beneficial to many illnesses, and if it becomes legalized more people will buy the drug because they know it will help them. Therefore, the government can make a ton of money instead of losing it. Also if that last paragraph didn't seem to have a fulcrum, i do not know what your looking at. Perhaps you mistaken ours for someone else's because it credits our argument tremendously. Legalizing the drug can allow a tax to be put on it. The taxes will very well decrease the national debt. With this, businesses and industries can build and create more jobs. Therefore, the unemployment rate will decrease. When all of the negatives decrease, we are getting closer and closer to getting out of the recession! Hows that for a fulcrum? Thank you.
